When is it Time to Replace my Roof Tiles?

Roof tiles are the most popular style of roofing. They look great on your home and offer protection from weather and the elements at the same time. While they are super durable and long lasting, roof tiles do need to be replaced from time to time. When that happens, you can rely on The Building Recyclers to help you find just what you need to restore your entire roof. We specialise in a wide range of roofing products and roof tiles in Sydney and are here to help you find the items you need. Here’s how to know it’s time to replace them.

Damaged or Missing Tiles

It’s important to do a regular inspection of your roof tiles so you can take care of issues before they become bigger problems. If you notice any missing or damaged roof tiles during this inspection, they need to be replaced as soon as possible. Letting it go too long can lead to leaks and water damage inside and outside your home, which can be time consuming and costly to repair.

Your Tiles Are Old

Roof tiles, even the strongest ones, won’t last forever. Though they do have a fairly long lifespan, if you own an older home, chances are that you may need to replace them at some point. If your home is older than about 50 years and still has the original tiles, it’s probably a good idea to have them replaced sometime soon. We can help you determine if it’s time or if you can keep the existing roof tiles for longer.

The Underlayment Material Needs to be Replaced

While your roof tiles can last for decades, the materials underneath will need to be replaced every 20 years or so. That involves removing the tiles, replacing the materials, and then putting the roof tiles back. However, if you don’t take good care of your roof tiles, you may need to replace some of them during this process. Proper maintenance of your roof tiles will help prevent this kind of damage.

You See Plant Growth Under Your Tiles

If you are conducting an inspection of your roof and notice any algae, mould, or mildew growing, you may need new roof tiles. In some cases, the tiles can be cleaned to remove the growth, but if it’s been there for a while or has damaged the roof tiles in any way, you may need to replace some or all of the tiles. We can help with this too.
